• NYU and Facebook team up to supercharge MRI scans with AI

2 monthes ago - By Tech Crunch

Magnetic resonance imaging is an invaluable tool in the medical field, but it's also a slow and cumbersome process. It may take an fifteen minutes or an hour to complete a scan, during which time the patient, perhaps a child or someone in serious pain, must sit perfectly still. NYU has been working on a way to accelerate this process, and is now collaborating with Facebook with the goal of cutting down MRI durations by 90 percent by applying AI-based imaging tools.
It's important at the outset to distinguish this effort from other common uses of AI in the medical imaging field. An X-ray...

Facebook and NYU believe AI can make MRIs way, way faster

Facebook is applying some of its computer vision learnings to an important application far afield from social networking.
If you've ever had an MRI, you know it can be a long, drawn-out, and very loud process. Given that you wouldn't even be having an MRI unless you and your doctors were concerned about something, it can be stressful-not to mention claustrophobic-to be jammed into the machine's chamber for up to an hour.

Facebook and NYU want to speed up MRI scans tenfold with AI

2 monthes ago - By Venture Beat

Facebook AI Research is working with NYU School of Medicine to make MRI scans up to 10 times faster through artificial intelligence. AI models being used in the fastMRI project were trained by 3 million MRI scans of the brain, knee, and liver from 30,000 clinical cases obtained by NYU. The effort announced today uses knowledge obtained from the lar...
